TECH6 – The value of data science in testing

November 8, 2023 from 15:10 to 15:50

Speaker: Laveena Ramchandani, EasyJet (UK)

Laveena is an experienced Testing Consultant with a comprehensive understanding of tools available for software testing and analysis. She aims to provide valuable insights that have high technical aptitude and hopes to inspire others in the world through her work. Laveena holds a degree in Business Computing from Queen Mary University of London and regularly speaks at events on data science models and other topics.

In her talk “The value of data science in testing”, Laveena would like to share how she explored the world of data science as a tester when testing a model and how we can apply that if we find ourselves in this situation. As part of an emerging team, how she contributed value in a field I have never tested. During the talk, she will give a background of what a data science model is, and how data plays a role in these models, the understanding of data pipelines and the importance of pairing testers with data scientists. She will also help the audience to understand what are the correct inputs and outputs and how it is connected to system behavior. For example the tester sees that output of 5+3 is 8, but the data scientist can see it as 8 but also 8.1,.8.001,.8.5 in simple words stochastic. So how will we bring processes and strategies to make sure we capture the right output results and the consumers still benefit from this? In a nutshell, making sure the model’s quality is good and we have confidence in what we provide to consumers. Enjoy Laveenas talk and learn also how we can test models, what existing skills we already have that we can apply in a data science team, and how to leave with resources to help the teams’ better structure itself to have confidence in the data produced.
